I began my beauty career as a 'cosmetics girl' in House of Fraser, surrounded by 'orange' women with trowelled on make-up. That may sound funny but it was true! I loved my job though, I loved communicating with women on such a personal level, helping them to feel good about themselves and I loved learning about different products and ingredients. I worked for a range of couture cosmetics companies - Benefit, Chanel, Christian Dior, Sisley and Creme de la Mer. I suppose you could say that I experienced 'the best' with a large pot of Creme de la Mer face cream being around £800!
Eventually though, I reached a point where I became dis-illusioned by the 'falseness' of mainstream cosmetics. I felt that there had to be more 'meaning' to the industry. I started exploring a more 'natural' approach to beauty and it was then that my journey really began.
I am now immersed in two different beauty worlds; the world of natural and holistic skincare and the fashionable world of make-up. I make my own natural skincare products based solely on oils and balms. They contain active ingredients for different skin types and are by far the best products I have ever used (and I have used a lot of products!). I believe that true skincare goes beyond the external aspect of beauty and into inner health and well-being too, so nutrition and internal remedies are just as important for clear, radiant and youthful looking skin.
At the other end of the spectrum, I am a make-up artist. I work with brides, helping them to look and feel naturally beautiful, I teach other make-up artists how to create perfect wedding make-up and I offer a whole range of make-up services to women everyday. I also work in the world of fashion, with models and photographers from around the country, using make-up to create fashionable images for use in magazines, film and television.
I have a regular slot on BBC Radio Gloucestershire talking about common skincare and make-up issues and providing effective solutions. I also write a monthly feature for the Oracle and I write MY BLOG, sharing my knowledge on topics such as achieving radiant skin, creating smokey eyes and the importance of essential fatty acids for skincare. |
